Your Big Chance

Be sure to read my Western Tribune column that follow this post. The issues in Bessemer are becoming very serious. Even more so after last night's Town Hall, but the column refers to the one last week.

How often do you get to meet and talk with elected officials and candidates in a casual setting. You have that opportunity tonight, as Alabama Stonewall Democrats hosts "Meet Your elected Officials," a meet and greet event at The Wine Loft located at 2200 1st Avenue North in Birmingham. the event lasts from 5:30 to 7:30 PM.

This is not just a "gay event" even though it is happening during Pridefest 2009. These candidates want to represent everyone (in their districts) and everyone is welcome.

Among the 20 something confirmed officials and candidates are:

Senate district 19 (Bessemer Area) candidate Priscilla Dunn

Congressional (to replace Artur Davis) candidates Earl Hilliard, Jr., and Shelia Smoot

Several Birmingham Council candidates, including Howard Bayless.

Several Birmingham School Board candidates including Elisa Burns-Macon.

Several sitting judges at different levels and elected office holders including State Rep. Patricia Todd.

Again, this event is not just for GLBT folk, or Democrats for that matter. All are welcome, and all would benefit from this event. See you there.

In the meantime, chill down on this hot day with Rod Stewart and Dolly Parton singing "Baby, It's Cold Outside."
