Teabaggers invade Kelly Ingram Park

The remnants of the Republican Party in Jefferson County gathered yesterday in Kelly Ingram Park to rally around the U. S. of KKK. All that was missing was the white sheets.

Most of the teabaggers have a very narrow view of things. This is representative of some of the Christianist love that was being spread around the park.

The McCarthyists were there.

There were a few people there who were protesting the protesters. The woman holding this sign had been denied a procedure by Blue Cross Blue Shield, and now she doesn't have insurance. The man standing next to her was threatened by one of the teabaggers, who told him he could "make him need some healthcare" after making fun of his weight. Classy.

While no one suggested that the teabaggers did not have the right to speak, some questioned the wisdom of selecting Kelly Ingram Park for the rally.

Let's not forget what happened there in 1963.

A group of people did remember, and were there to remind the 'baggers of the history associated with the park.

The prayers of the men in this sculpture at the entrance of the park in 2009 would most likely be, "Dear Lord, please don't let it happen again."

With all the talk of "taking our country back" and such, let's remind the teabaggers that Obama carried Jefferson County in 2008, and that for the majority of people in the county, and in the country, the country was taken back from an ineffective party with an inept leader just a year ago.

So because you think Bush was inept it's ok to put a more inept person in the White House just because he is a democrat? I bet all those people who voted for your president would not do so now!

Thank you, Joe. I haven't been able to bring myself to write about what I saw and heard yesterday. My skin is still crawling.

I will add this to your account: after the teabaggers ran out of time and were told to wrap it up, a white man walked by the civil rights banner, smirked, and said to one of the older black men, "If we didn't leave, would the dogs get called on us?"

I believe the choice of Kelly Ingram Park was quite deliberate, as a bunch of overprivileged white reactionaries tried to tie their "struggle" to the civil rights movement.

Anonymous,
"I bet all those people who voted for your president would not do so now!"

Really? All of them? So ...wait...who was the other candidate...oh yeah...McCain... would get every vote???

I think that Obama would get even more votes now.

My two favorie networks are now Comedy Central and MSNBC. Both make me laugh until I can't breathe.

Listen, by the time this President's term is up, people are going to be anxious to get a democrat out of the White House. It is sad that our young people have to be exposed to the sickening, disgusting propaganda that is constantly being tossed out at them by the likes of Olberman and Maddow.

But the numbers don't lie, and I am talking about the REAL numbers.

Hopefully we will still have some freedom left to vote by then.

Keith,
Would you make a list of the freedoms that you have lost under the Obama administration?

Yes, Keith explain to Joe why your opinion is wrong! His president has done no wrong. His president is the best ever and will prove to be God when his term is up. If he ever loses another election. He may be president until the end of time. Have you read the helthcare bill? They are gonna fine us 250k or put us in jail if we don't sign up for obamapelosireid care. What does that sound like? If the bill passes the senate there will be a major upheaval in America. I bet they change the thing when goverment agents and police officers start dying as they try to arrest those people who believe it is their right to decide who provides them with healthcare.

Oh, and how about the part where the Gov't REQUIRES you as a small business person who makes a certain amount of money to provide healthcare for you employees or I get fined.

WHERE is the freedom in that? It's my business...what if I don't WANT to provide healthcare for my employees. I started this business. Shouldn't I be allowed to decide?

Dems are ALL ABOUT "Gov't control". They want to provide for those who can't go out and get a job, and they hinder economic growth because they take so much from the very people who make this country GO!

Keith,
The goernment already has all kinds of regulations that make your business a healthier place for your employees and your customers. Own a restaurant? The health department makes you do certain things. Want to employ 9 year old girls? Can't do it, according to the government. Both of these things cost you money. Not having to clean the dishes or hiring kids for $1.50 an hour could make you bucks, but the government has rules.

Providing health insurance is just another rule that will make your employees healthier, thus saving you money in lost work time.

This is so funny, because you start out claiming it's providing insurance for your employees that is the problem, but then you say it is those who can't get out and get a job.

Figure out what you are trying to say, and come back when you can make a point rationally.

Joe...none of that made sense. Sure there are rules that protect us all. You must be 16 to drive, you must drive on the right side of the road, etc... But I understand what Keith is saying, and just like most liberals, you are spinning it to make it look 'okay'.

I own a small business. I have several employees and unfortunately, I make less than what will be required under this bill to be forced to provide my employees health insurance. (I say unfortunate because I'd like to be making a lot more money.) A friend of mine who is in the same business, and is in a different market does a good bit better than me in both volume and income. The rules for him will be different. He will be "forced" to provide insurance to his employees where I won't be. We both do the exact same thing, we work close to the same number of hours. Our businesses are open on the same days. But he will be "forced" by the Fedearl Govt to provide insurance or pay a fine and I won't.

I wish you could understand the concept. It is GOVERNMENT CONTROL and it is not a good plan. What Keith is saying is very rational. What you are saying is not.

I also see his point about those who are not willing to work. Anybody can work these days who wants to work. We have become spoiled little brats here in the country, and if we don't find a job where we have to work few hours, make lots of money and be off nights and weekends, we prefer to just take a govt check (and now govt insurnace) and stay home and watch Divorce Court.

The people who built this country did it with a strong work ethic which we now lack. We must get back to basics or we are in trouble.

One more thing, there has yet to be an explanation as to how this healthcare plan will be paid for. The numbers do not add up. And we can't keep printing money. Obama is going to bankrupt this country in less than four years.

Thank you for your time.

Bill,
I agree there are some funding issues to work out. I have said such on some other sites I visit.

There will have to be some adjustments made by some business owners to comply. But presently there are millions of Americans without insurance.

I am all for doing away with the employer mandated insurance. I prefer medicare for all, paid for through payroll taxes and other ways. I prefer a single payer public option.

But that is not going to happen.

I understand the concerns of the business owner. I used to own a small business. If I had been told I had to provide insurance, I would have found a way to do it.

We are told we have to buy homeowner's insurance by the government to get a loan. We are told we have to get car insurance by the state government. I was told by the courts (government)I had to get life insurance when I got a divorce. I was told by the courts I had to get health insurance for my kids (which I already had). Being required to buy insurance is nothing new.

All of those things relate to you personally Joe. YOUR home, YOUR car, YOUR kids. What is happening here is wealthy people are going to end up paying higher taxes to pay for insurance for those who can't afford it. It is wrong. I wouldn't want your hard earned money to provide me insurance if I don't even have a job.

Joe needs a job himself!
