Unnatural Acts

This is the short post of the day. The long one follows.

Much has been said by Paul (the Bible guy) and other more recent jabbers who leave comments on this blog about "unnatural acts" and how they were the cause of the destruction of Sodom and will be the cause of the destruction of our country or the world.

Think for a minute and answer this question. What unnatural act is likely to result in a great catastrophe?

A. Sex between two men.

B. Boarding an airplane and flying.

It is not natural for man to fly, but it sure is a way to get swine flu from one country to another.

Now, continue reading...

I quit being a Christian years ago. Initially I decided that IF God exists, that he/she exists IN me, not somewhere in a church or a collection plate, or the mind of a preacher, or a book called Holy. Further, I decided that since I am gay, and God (see disclaimer above) made me, that God wouldn't screw things up. My conclusion was that with God internalized, and since I was created by an all knowing entity - who certainly would know I am gay - that I was okay. No, REALLY OKAY. (Here I will ask the fundalmentalists not to call me delusional. I don't accept your judgement). At that point I stopped the quest. A result of this was the end of belief in all religion.

My opinion is that if many could stop listening to what they are TOLD throughout their lives, and begin to THINK, truly think for themselves, refusing to be led, that they might discover a great freedom, seated in an greater truth; that they are in a one-on-one relationship with their God, regardless of what the biased interpreters of biased scripture say. So FIRE THE 'EXPERTS'! Where is it written in your bible that a preacher is the sole access to God? The editorial point about the 1952 interpretation of scriptures should show any brave and thinking person the manipulative agenda that is out there. Stop taking the bait! My opinion is that religion - for some - is addictive. Breaking any addiction is painful but the results are always good. Those of you who struggle, good luck in escaping the prisons that have been built in your minds! Olin Blankenship

"Curt",
Your comment is not being published. It appears to be an attempt to break the rules.

My question is a trick question, easy to answer. The only unnatural act listed is getting on a plane and flying. Sex between two gay men is natural, because that is what they are "wired" to do.

True, you choose who to have sex with, and you choose your wife. I also choose who I will have sex with. We all do. Sexual orientation is not about who one has sex with, however. It's about your very being and results in which gender(s) you are attracted to. There is no choice in that.

"Curt,"
I offer opinions that reflect progressive views. These views are based on science and fact.

WHATEVER. Who's science are you studying? And I thought this was a blog called Bessemer Opinions, not Progressive Views.

Hey Curt, this is a very POLITICALLY CORRECT blog. You are only published if Joe and his gay friends agree with you. You can push them a little, but once you start making sense, he cuts you off. Kinda funny isn't it? I would have loved to read your post.

Strange he wouldn't publish your comments, but he published that outlandish crap from Olin.

And so it goes....

"Curt,"
I follow peer reviewed and true science, not the made up kind used by the right.

Curt said...

OMG...the left is the MASTER of "made up stuff". They do just like you have done here. They make up news reports, or slant them WAY to the left, OR they ignore the TRUTH. I'm dying. How funny.

Come on Joe. GROW SOME and let us see Curt's post. I"m curious myself.

Dan, I'd describe this as a SCIENTIFICALLY CORRECT blog...

Well, my dearest Joe, it seems that once again those who claim that you censure their views are just the views that you published. Wow, these folks likely need to just say what they mean rather than just be mean. Anyway, now don't be too harsh on our St. Paul. Remember that he was, "blinded by the light," sound familiar? or as the STONES' would say, "blinded by those faces in the rainbow windows." St. Paul just did not know any better and/or he was not specifically referring to what we now call homosexuality. As a host of theologians, will attest, Paul's direction was to those who engaged in pederasty as he knew all to well from his many trips to Greece. Of course, one could also argue with some validity that St. Paul himself, "suffered from a, 'thorn' in my side that leads me [to call for all people to remain in chastity] for life." But, your point is the main point- and that is that those who throw the stones and barbs with the, "if man were meant to..." then we'd certainly not only be flying, but we'd be without steroes, cell phones, computers (the very ones used today)automobiles, blenders, gas stoves, etc., etc, ad infinitum; AND that includes the Bible itself. Now, for your opponents let them be the first to be, " put to death for (among other things,) eating lobster and bar-b-que ribs, adultry, cutting one's hair at the temples, marring the edges of their beards, getting a tattoo, planting two kinds of seeds in the same garden, or fail to keep the SABBATH holy." My guess is that your opponents NEVER keep the true sabbath;Eat bacon and shrimp whenever they want; have their hair cut, at least occasionally, and worst of all, actually set-up stone monuments for their dead friends and relatives! as the punishment for that is [GASP!] tuberculosis and/or blindness." Now, let THEM go find-out where I'm wrong on any of those things from a most sacred book that has been altered, changed, re-interpreted, and worst of all used to hurt rather than to love. All of which are strongly warned against doing- the very last words of the Bible. They strain at knats and swallow camels. ' Sorry that I went on so over what is such a minor obvious reflection of your's and mine; but I'm still amazed at those, who are SO concerned about something that has nothing to do with them, while what they REALLY need to be concerned with is themselves and their GOD, who I do not personally believe shares their oh-so-holier than us, attitude. Get me to an airport for Atlanta right now! I'll save Mexico for awhile, yet.

LOL...Thanks Daniel. You have so many statements in that post that prove you have no clue about theology, I don't even need to comment. -oh, I can't stop laughing.

Joe said...

Thaks Danny. I think Dan's lack of substance in his response to your comment shows that there is no argument against it.

rev. bill said...

I'm with you Dan. I could write for HOURS on the problems with BhamDan's thinking. Substance means NOTHING to you Joe. Your mind is closed to the truth. Uh, the HOLY scripture says a thing or two about that as well.

Joe said...

Bill,
I don't know if I have time to read your "hours" of writing, but please explain your statment that "substance means nothing" to me.

lipscomb bohemian said...

rev bill i wonder if you could indeed write for hours..on any subject..without running out of words.
birmingham daniel..im not sure if joe referred to paul or not..i did and it is probably to me that your comments are pointed. i wont argue your point at all ...i just didnt want joe to take the fall for something i might have said.
incidently do any of you cristanity experts have a blog or website i can look at? just curious if you might have any real ideas of your own or if your job is to just judge others?.
wishing you all well

First to- lipscomb bohemian- I'd like to believe that maybe you misread my post altogether.I had thought that through all the verbage my main issue was with those who do the, "judging." Those like, "Dan," whose name I'm ashamed to share, and to the so-called, alleged, "rev bill," I tried my best on their own terms using their own holy scriptures, including the Torah,or as they would most likely refer to as the Bible as wriiten by King James I of England (James VII of Scotland.) Apparently thay have never even read those. Thank God that my God is so much bigger than that tiny one they purport to worship. I did not choose to be gay, but thank God that I was CHOSEN! And I likely have indeed read and studied more theologians than they can possible count (or add or subtract, etc.) I invite them to attend church with me any Sunday at 10:30 AM at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church on Birmingham's Southside, if they can locate it. But, just in case, we are the church with the red door and open hearts and minds. Why, we even believe in dinosaurs - even those like Dan & the rev! " Me thinks they dost protest too loudly." I roared at the few comments left by Dan in response to mine! Seems he could use true religion or perhaps just a 3rd grade reading level would do. Why don't YOU go look it all up? You too, "rev."

lipscomb bohemian said...

bham daniel...perhaps i did misread your post..i responded only because i had indeed posted concerning paul a few days ago and wasnt sure about your reference to him. i suggest that those doing the judging have someone look into their eye for one thing and for another look into the meaning of jesus life. i have no arguement whatsoever about gays either morally or spiritually . i am only baffled by those who believe they have found "the way" which is to rewrite anything that goes against their shallow view of mankind or the cosmos itsself
i wish you well
