Who-Hoo-hoo knew? Northern saw-whet owls live in Alabama. Birders previously thought the little owl lived only in Canada and Northern US.

Bob Sargent and his wife Martha have caught nine of them near their home in Clay. They are bird experts and worked on this project for three years before capturing any this year. Jackpot. They document, photograph and put an ID band around its leg. They only weigh 3.5 ounces. Cute, huh?
In Bessemer, no owls, but lots of turkeys. 400 turkeys were given out by Earl Cochran Jr and DeMeco Ryans, Houston Texans players from Bessemer.

Hey, Joe. Thanks for posting the reminder about Project Postcard. Last Wednesday I started my postcard project. I created my own though to include one of the following messages: Want to save marriage? Ban divorce, not gay marriage, When do I get to vote on your marriage???, and "Marriage is one of the 'basic civil rights of man'" (United States Supreme Court-Loving v. Virginia). I have enough addressed and stamped with my personal message imploring the President-elect to help advance our civil rights, including marriage equality, so that he will receive one postcard a day until mid-December.
Good job, Jeff. Be sure and see what i just posted about a marriage manifesto, of sorts.
