Inspiring Through Song

Who said this:

"It is our routines and our comforts that allow us to ignore social issues. For some of us, it is our privilege to be ignorant. This video tells the story of social issues challenging our privileges and entering our routines making them impossible to ignore. Social injustice cannot be ignored when you are forced to deal with them. That is the idea behind this video.

What would happen if you were forced to deal with something that you may think has nothing to do with you? If suddenly the world's problems came into your own home? You would have to realize that you are connected to everything and everyone one earth."

Last night we visited WorkPlay and heard (and saw) Brett Dennen. Thanks to Live 100.5 for bringing Brett to Birmingham. You can listen to yesterday's interview with Brett at the 100.5 link.

Brett is one of those singer/songwriters whose songs have meaning, and inspire. Brett was describing this video with the words above.

Brett was recently on Current TV with this video about bringing change.

He says we shouldn't leave it all up to the politicians, which is true. It's going to take all of us working together to bring positive change to this country, and our President challenged each of us. We can already see that President Obama is doing his part (Obama lays first piece in Energy Policy puzzle ). Environmental change, social change, it's all important. It's all necessary. Let's join in.

I forgot to mention that Brett performed barefoot and with incense burning. We made new friends...Chris and Hallie sat with us. Brett has some really serious fans.

Well, well, well. Our new President gives his VERY FIRST Presidential interview to an Arabic Media company to tell Muslim's that "America is not your enemy." I hope everyone reading this realizes that Muslims don't give a crap. That is music to their ears. This man is so soft and so delusional, it is going to be TRAJIC to our national security. Head for your bomb shelter NOW.

John, go ahead and get in your bomb shelter, lock the door and do not come out till we tell you to. The world will be a better place.

You people are crazy. You liberal people who think that we can move the world forward by holding hands and 'embracing' everyone NO MATTER WHAT THEY BELIEVE. At some point you have to realize that that is never going to happen.

Sure. I am sure that there are FRIENDLY Muslims. But you cannot get away from the fact that Muslims believe that the Koran is the Holy Scripture. This book that ENCOURAGES KILLING OTHER PEOPLE in the NAME OF (a false) GOD.

I realize that there are Muslims who would never think of doing something so sinister.

But somehow, we have to get back to the basics. And the basics are that our founding fathers used the Holy Bible as the basis for founding our country. It is FACT. School children in the early days of this country used THE BIBLE in their one room school houses to learn reading. School days were opened with prayer.

It is this 'acceptance' of everyone regardless of what they believe that is destroying this country.

I almost threw up when Obama said during his inaugural address that "this is a country of Christians and Muslims and non-believers." It is THAT THINKING RIGHT THERE that is causing us major problems. This is a God-fearing Christian nation (at least that's how it was founded) and because we have moved away from that and continue to move away from that, we are in the shape that we are in.

John, you keep up the good work!

Billy boy,
So you think that by trying to work together for peace, it is better to enact wars based on religion?

The country is not being destroyed. Give me one shred of evidence. You say that it is.

As to the inaugural address, why would that make you throw up? Did you not know that there are non-believers and Muslims here? Then why throw up when it is mentioned? Do you not think they should all be treated with respect and with equal rights? Is that not what our founding papers say? Do you want Muslims and non-believers shipped away? (see today's blog) or executed? Do you want all to be forced to accept Christianity? Is that what Jesus taught? Is one's relationship with Christ valid when forced?

Hey I tell you what. We will unlock the door to the bomb shelter and let you join John.

Amazing how many words you just put in my mouth. I did NOT say that we should enact wars based on religion. Joe, open your eyes man, THAT is exactly what Muslims do. You still think that they (those in the middle east) hate us because of George W. Bush. They hated us WAY before that, and they hate us because WE ARE NOT MUSLIM. Why can't you understand that.

As for our country, we WERE founded on Christian principles. And NOT to separate the church from the state, but to keep the state out of the church. At the rate we are going, we are going to have the state involved in everything - thus - become a socialist (communist) country. It is scary how close we are getting to that. You and most of those who think like you simply want your GAY RIGHTS to be honor. That is more important than anything else.

I don't want anyone 'shipped away' but I do want our country, and those who live here, to recognize that we believe in God, that the 10 commandments are located above our Supreme Court justices for a REASON, that we start our senate sessions in prayer for a reason. Once Islamic Terrorist see us 'relax' (which is why they were so excited to see Obama elected) we WILL BE ATTACKED ON OUR OWN SOIL again.

They may hate us because we are not Muslims but that goes way back to the Crusades, Bill. Militant Christians killing them. Now we have to work past that by diplomacy, not war, to convince them that the president of war has been replaced by the president of peace, and that we can live in a peaceful world. That is not an easy sell, especially after the last 8 years, but it is worth a try.

I will address your charge that we were founded on Christian principals later.

If you had followed this blog for more than a few months, you would know that saving the planet, the environment, along with advancing science with all its implications toward health and energy is my biggest issue. Treating veterans with respect is probably next. Stopping torture was probably next. Yes gay eqaulity is important, but its not the reason for my vote (as some of you have said) and it is not the most important thing.

Gay issues got a lot of billing here because there were opportunities to see progress, and I spoke up to advance those opportunities. but it is not my number one issue.

Bill, you are fighting a losing battle. Joe doesn't realize that this country was built on two things. Faith in God and willingness to shoot at the enemy when necessary.
This will NEVER be a peaceful world. Liberals don't understand that. There are areas of the world that will never ever be at peace with anybody. Once we become 'soft' (i.e. tolerant, gay, unchristian) this country as we know it will be no more.

well england ,,where they left from..had faith in god....you still use th same bible they did. we came here for freedom from oppression. we "shot" the people who were already living here peacefully. you are right there will never be a peaceful world....so long as we declare someone the enemy. and are you saying that we must be hardened and intolerant to be christians. ive never heard of that.
i wish you good fortune

Randy, especially, and Bill,

I can see that you just don't want peace. I guess you believe that since you can't remain on top, so to speak, of the pecking order if everyone is equal, and that fighting is necessary to sustain the superiority, that peace is not something to strive for.

For me, however, peace is something to strive for.

Sure I want peace. EVerybody wants peace. But at the same time, you have to be realistic and understand that there are regions of the world where peace will simply not happen. In several middle eastern countries, the children are raised and taught that America is the enemy. It doesn't matter who the president is - HATE AMERICA - KILL AMERICANS. While thankfully we do not teach this to our young people, we must realize that we cannot just expect to have talks with those countries and think they will go "oh, okay, you people are friendly. We'll stop killing you."
When we lower our guard, they will attack, and that seems to be what we are doing.
Peace IS something to strive for. But you walk softly and carry a BIG stick.

People who seek to counterbalance their own feelings of inferiority and helplessness by trying to vicariously make an emotional attachment to their military are funny.
